bestseller. Perhaps not so strange considering it’s a tough, large volume backpack that features a removable internal frame, load lifters, and 7 built in pockets all for under 2 pounds!
Gear Notes
This award-winning pack’s roomy main pocket holds your shelter, clothing, sleeping pad and food. There are seven extra pockets – one mesh for wet stuff, two easy-to-reach for water and high-energy snacks, and the rest for whatever else. Made of custom 100 and 200 denier Robic nylon fabric, this tough, light pack delivers a very comfortable carry even when overloaded with 17 kilos of gear.
My experience with the Gossamer gear Mariposa has always been a pleasant one. Lovely carrying capabilities, extra sitpad that functions as a back pad, lots of pockets all over the place, removable hipbelt and frame, as well as enough volume for just about any trip I plan on walking. To top if off the Mariposa is one of the best looking backpacks on the market according to my very keen sense of style.
I love the feel of the Gossamer gear Mariposa on my longer hikes. It just feels so nice and tight on my body, making scrambling surprisingly easy with such a large bag. I rarely lose my balance because of my backpack sliding back and forth with the Mariposa on my back. I also like being able to glide into camp with a ready to go sitpad that I just pull out from outside of the backpack. The large side pocket means I can easily store my tent on the outside as well as a water bottle and other such goodness.
If you’re looking for a great all around backpack for lighter weight hikes, than the Mariposa is hard to beat for its price and functionality. This pack is great for loads up to 15 or so kilos. After that, not so much. If you need a backpack for heavier loads than check out the Hyperlite mountain gear 4400 backpacks.
